If you have an Expression or other older Cricut machine that does not use Design Space, you probably know that Cricut no longer makes Cricut cartridges. This means that as the inventory in our warehouse is depleted, you will no longer be able to purchase the physical cartridges. It is getting harder and harder to find cartridges to use in these machines. For that reason, you are when you find a cartridge you want to own, you need to buy it while you can!

***If you have a Maker or Explore, you are in luck – all of our collections, even formerly retired sets – are now available using my affiliate link!***

What’s old is new! Updated 2014 workshop post, printable guide available

Update 2/13/2020: I updated this post from 2014 because the Remarkable Wreath stamp set used for this card kit is back for a limited time! Even better, it is part of our Stamptacular sale and just $9.50! If you purchase this stamp set from my Close To My Heart website, I’ll send you a pdf cutting and assembly guide for these cards. Although the Timberline paper is retired, other papers and  embellishments can be substituted and give these card designs an updated look! Hurry, this stamp set will retire again on 2/29/2020!

I’m so excited to share this new Show Me Scrapping custom card kit with you. Unfortunately, because of retiring products, this kit is only available through July 31, 2014.

Click here to order your card kit today>>

This kit includes the cards, envelopes, papers and embellishments to make 12 cards, 4 each of the 3 designs shown. Scroll down for detailed pictures plus a few tips I used when creating these cards.

Timberline Card #1
Timberline Card #2
Timberline Card #3

I love how the3D Foam tape adds dimension to the trees on card #1. The trees are from page 66 of the Artbooking Cricuthandbook.

Another “trick” I used to add detail to card 2 random stamping the wreath with Cocoa ink on the outer edge of the card before layering on the pages. I like how the branch design frames the rest of the card.

The window on card #3 is also from the Artbooking Cricut cartridge. I added a header & footer using the same wood paper from the Timberline paper pack but with the grain going horizontal rather than vertical. To make it really dimensional, I attached these “boards” and the wreath with 3D foam tape.

These cards use one of my favorite stamp sets, C1473 Remarkable Wreath, which sadly will retire at the end of July.

You can order this stamp set and other supplies needed to complete your kit on my Close To My Heart website.

Addtional items needed to complete your cards
My Acrylix Remarkable Wreath (C1374)
My Acrylix blocks of various sizes
Goldenrod, Cocoa and Twilight Exclusive Ink Pads
Paper Trimmer & Scissors
Sponge
Adhesives

Recipes for Featured August Stamp of the Month Projects

Each month, my Close To My Heart features beautiful projects made by home office artists using the current stamp of the month. This month’s projects are perfect to help make the first day of school a big success!

As you know, most teachers operate on a very low budget and supplement supplies out of their own project. Wouldn’t your child’s teacher love that bundle of pictures with a handmade tag to show your appreciation. Another idea is to create one of these featured cards for a personal note to slip in your child’s lunch box or back pack to let them know you are thinking of them through the day. And of course the layout is a must to show off those adorable first day of school pictures.

Below I’d added the list of projects needed to create these projects.

Remember the Stamp of the Month, School Year, is only available in August 2017. In addition, you can get it for just $5 with a $50 purchase. So look over these supply lists, make your list and then be sure to add the stamp of the month.

Keep in mind that the Jack paper pack and some of the other products in these project retire at the end of this month. Retiring items are now while supplies last and items are starting to run out, so don’t wait to place your order. Also, when you order $26.95 of items from the Jack product line in August, I’ll send you a bonus stamp set!

Be sure to review all of my August specials which I posted earlier this month before you submit your order. Please let me know if you have any questions about these projects or the product used.

Create your own Everyday Life binder tabs using Artbooking

I love our Everyday Life albums! These not-so-mini Mini Albums would make Goldilocks happy: not to small and not too big.

Currently, you have two choices: Black & White Stripes or Sea Glass. (In August, a new color Bashful will be introduced!)

These versatile two-ring albums can become whatever you want them to be. Want to make a pint size photo album? Fill your binder with the 4″x6″ Memory Protectors (2 photos per side) and just slide your printed pictures in. Would you rather mix it up by alternating with journaling and titles? Fill some of the photo wells with 4×6 Picture My Life Cards. Add some 3″x4″ Memory Protectors to mix it up even more.

Another option is to fill the album with full size 6″x8″ Memory Protectors and fill them with down sized scrapbook layouts. There are Memory Protector designs that you can mix and match throughout your book: 3″x4″, 4″x6″ and 6″x8″.

Of course you can also use the binder as a planner. Either purchase the calendar pages from us (currently deeply discounted!) or create your own. There are so many great printables available on the internet.

Members of my Close To My Heart team are using the Everyday Life album as “business binders”. We are setting up sections to hold information about contacts, events, goals and more.

In fact, you can embrace your creativity and combine all of these ideas to create exactly what you want. Regardless of what you create with your Everyday Life Album, adding a few tabs can help you keep your pages organized.

Click on the link below to open a file which includes these three tabs that when cut will fit your Everyday Life album perfectly.  (Note that this file will not cut if you do not have the Artbooking Cricut Cartridge linked to your Design Space account.)

4 Retiring Items you DON’T want to MISS out on!

This month we just introduced a new Seasonal Expressions Idea Book that contains lots of summer crafty goodies in fun themes like UNICORNS, LUMBERJACKS, CACTUS and BEACH. This book will be around for four months, then we’ll switch to a brand new Holiday Expressions catalog.

In addition to these seasonal books, our catalog cycle includes an Annual Inspirations Idea Book that is live from August through the following July.

This means that the current annual book will be retiring on July 31. Recently, Close To My Heart announced which items will be retiring from this book and now all of these items are available only while supplies last. This means that once the current inventory runs out, they are GONE FOREVER!

View all remaining retiring items>>

While I was expecting the Fundamentals line of products (paper, complements & ribbons) to be refreshed for the new year, there were some sad surprises for me on the list.

1.  How To Books

The five original (big) spiral bound “How To” books are retiring! I LOVE these books and am glad that I’ll still my copies on my shelf.

In addition to complete layout and card directions (from cutting to assembly), these full-color books are filled with tips and techniques to make your projects extra special.

There are two card making books, Wishes and Originals. And four scrapbooking books, Magic, Imagine, Cherish and Reflections.

2. State Stamps

These M-sized state stamps are a bargain at just $2.95 each and include the shape, full name and abbreviation of each state. Did you know we also have stamps for the Canadian provinces, Australia and New Zealand? Get them before they go!

3. Sea Glass Everything!

True to its title “Color of the Year” Sea Glassis going to retire after just one year. This light teal blue (or is it green) has been featured in many of our products this year — it’s amazing how well it coordinates with just about everything!

But like all good things, Sea Glass is coming to an end. You will find glitter paper, solid cardstock and inks on the Going Soon list.

4. Ruler and Stitch Guide

I hate it when some of my go-to products are retired.

For example, our clear ruler 14″ ruler is going away! I use this ALL THE TIME and trust me, you don’t want to miss your chance to own one. This ruler (along with my Versamat) is the reason things on my layouts line up properly. This ruler works so well for two reasons: it’s clear and it’s longer than 12″. Other rulers just don’t do the trick.

The Stitch Guide and Foam Mat are also retiring! This mighty combo allows you to create great dotted designs. I am really not happy to see these items go!

Other Retiring Items

In this post, I’ve touched on just a few of the items that are retiring. There is so much more!!! All of these items are conveniently located under the “Going Soon!” section of my website. Although the official retirement date is not until July 31, these items have already started disappearing as supplies run out. So check it out and get your order in before it is too late.

May Specials

Before you check out, be sure to check out the other May specials including the exclusive Live Beautifully lineand the Stamp of the Month.

LIve in the Moment with Sarita and Artbooking

While waiting on the new Spring/Summer products, I’ve been doing a little creating to use up some of my stash. This card looks intricate but was super quick using the Artbooking Cricut cartridge.

Sarita Papers, “In the Moment” (C1565) stamp set

Sentiment says “Live in the Moment and let the Future unfold on it’s own.”

Soccer Artbooking Layout

Do you have some old sports pictures that you’d like to add to your scrapbooks? My daughter has only played competitive sports one season a few years ago so I wanted this layout to be special. I used the Artbooking cartridge to make custom titles, overlay and other elements for these pages.

The overlay is on page 83 of the handbook.  It is really easy for the overlays to overpower everything else on the page, including the pictures. So I cut it out of the grey print from the Proplayer Paper pack to create a tone-on-tone design with the Slate cardstock. This helps keep the pictures as the focal point while adding great detail.

I cut the full page overlay because I was planning to just make a single page layout. However, I found that the pictures hid most of the overlay, so I cut it in half and split it between the two pages. In doing this, I was able to display the most relevant words like “fun” and “go team” and hid the ones that didn’t really fit a kindergarten soccer team (“defense”).

I cut the word “Soccer” and the ball from this same page. I stole the word “Girl” from the very girly page 80 and “Read. Set. Go” from the school layout on page 69. I love how you can mix and match titles, photo mats, borders and overlays from different layouts on the cartridge.

I cut everything at 11.5″ so it was all scaled appropriately for a 12″ x 12″ scrapbook page. I love the relative cut sizing on the Artbooking cartridge! When you work with this cartridge, you set the cut size based on the completed project size rather than the individual image size. It really simplifies pulling together a layout – no more recutting because the size isn’t what you expected. (By the way, if you want an image cut a specific size, you can press the “Real Dial Size” button.)

Other embellishments are from the Proplayer Assortment and a couple Slate Twist Ties. I also used a few of the stars that were cut from the overlay. The opposite side was a darker design that showed up well on the slate base pages.

I have several projects lined up this holiday week. I hope that you also find time to relax and create as well.

Keep Creating,

Rebecca

Festive Friday Blog Hop: August Edition

I’m excited to be part of the Festive Friday blog hop! On one Friday each month through December, you can hop through our blogs to holiday cards, layouts or home decor items using the amazing new products in the Autumn/Winter 2013 Idea Book. I hope you enjoy this paper “eye candy”! Just one more reason to love Fridays!

If you came here from Diane’s blog, The Happy Scrapbooker, then you are on the right track. Your hopping path is circular and you will visit each of us by following the links.

For this August Edition of the hop, I’ve made a simple Christmas card using the new Frosted papers and a sentiment from the Frosted scrapbooking Workshop On The Go.

I used the new Artbooking Cricut cartridge to cut out the snowflake overlay from page 76 of the handbook (<snow>, shift, overlay). Although this cartridge is known for it’s complete mini-albums and layouts, it is simple to scale down these images to make some lovely cuts for cards. To add some extra dimension, I took some of the snowflakes that were cut out making the overlay and layered them on top.

I finished the card off with some sparkles and baker’s twine.

Be sure to check back on September 20th for our next installment of the Festive Friday Blog Hop. But for now hop on over to Michelle’s Wandering Scissors blog, your next stop in today’s hop.

Keep Creating!
