2012 Convention is Shining Bright!

Today, I have been thoroughly enjoying Leadership Day at the 2012 Close To My Heart Convention.

If you have followed my Tweets, you have already heard the big announcements from this morning:

1) New Consultant Essentials Kit is just $49 (plus $10 shipping)!!! Retail value of products is $130. This is a very low entry price into what I believe will be a wonderful experience for you regardless of whether you are looking for some extra income or just want to get the great consultant discount for your hobby.

2) Studio J Memberships are going away! Going forward everyone will have access to everything in our online scrapbooking tool. Two page layouts will be available for just $6.95, plus shipping. There will be a transition plan for those of you who already have a membership….stay tuned for details.

3) The next incentive trip will be at the Westin Playa Conchal in Costa Rica. This is an all inclusive trip and there are lots of extras included for those that earn this trip. Detail for the program have not been announced…can’t wait to hear!

The Leadership Day concluded with each of us receiving one of the new Workshops on the Go called Scholastic. As you would guess, it will be great for all those back to school pictures.

Here’s a quick picture of the contents I took on my hotel room floor.

Scholastic Workshop On The Go Contents

The format of the WOTG is similar to what we are used to. Here’s a list of the contents:

– Instruction Booklet

– B&T Cardstock – 6 reversible sheets with zip strips

– Solid Cardstock – 8 sheets

– Exclusive Scholarship stamp set (cute number border, “From the Library of…,”, “This book belongs to…”, “Honor Roll”, notebook paper, “School Zone” sign, dates cluster, “back 2 SCHOOL”)

– Durables Square in Antique Gold & Pewter

– NEW! Color-ready Noted Canvas Shapes

I can’t wait to get home to make these pages!

Studio J Experience

I’m thrilled that Close To My Heart included 5 free Studio J layouts with my convention registration. I love this company! I also received instructions for five beautiful layouts teaching new techniques. I just finished my layouts this morning and can’t wait to show them to you.

Layout #1

Kit: Lucy; Pattern Stars Above

My favorite technique from this layout is cropping My Stickease borders to make ribbon streamers. The pink lace across the top and on the large photo on the left uses this technique. The short lace pieces hanging down from the buttons is also cropped pieces of border. Pretty nifty!

Layout #2

Kit: Michief; Pattern: Dynamic Duo

Yes, you read that right. The kit for this is Mischief. If you are familiar with that paper you will recall that the primary colors are black and orange with a Halloween theme. The great thing about Studio J is that if you like the patterns but need different colors you can easily change them. I updated the fancy B&T pattern to Lagoon and the grid B&T to Sunset to coordinate with the colors in the pictures.

Layout #3

Kit: Lucky, Pattern: Portrait Collection

For this layout, I changed a text box to a photo box on the left page. Then added a bamboo text box to create a wide border to unify the pictures.

Layout #4

Kit: Magic Moments; Pattern: Powerful Trio

This is another example of changing the colors on the B&T to create a color combo that works for the pictures. On the right page, I layered text boxes and stickease to create the labels for the pictures.

Layout #5

Kit: Crusin’; Pattern: Conclusion Combo

This final layout is of my own design. I have been anxious to use the Crusin paper to scrap my Father-in-laws 50’s theme birthday party. So, I created this fun layout instead of the one in the instructions. The layout in the instructions included a really cool technique to make pleated ribbon using ribbon tab that I’ll definitely be using on a future layout.

Egypt Trip – DONE!

One week, 10 layouts!  I documented our 2002 trip to Egypt by squeezing in just a few minutes here and there. Studio J makes scrapbooking quick and easy with beautiful results.

I learned a lot about changing colors making these layouts. I needed lots of neutral papers, but I didn’t want to use the same color and design combinations over and over. In Studio J, if you like the design on the paper, you can change it to any color you want.

I ordered prints this weekend and wanted to share them with you. But first, here’s my top five reasons I love Studio J:

#5 – Creating layouts is super simple — they almost make themselves

#4 – Digital journaling is so much easier than on paper

#3 – No set up and clean up needed

#2 – Can be done anywhere with an internet connection

#1 – How awesome they look!
