Overview of the Artfully Sent Cricut Collection for Making Cards and More

I’m so excited that our retired Cricut image collections are now available to purchase using my special Cricut Affiliate link! In this post, I’m going to knock the dust off the a favorite collection, especially for card-makers, Artfully Sent. Join my as to learn all the features of this amazing set of images.

History and Good News

The Artfully Sent Cricut collection was first released by Close To My Heart in 2014 in a physical cartridge bundle. This is was right after Cricut released the Explore, the first machine to use Design Space, but most Cricut users still used cartridge-driven machines like the Expression. The tiny pictures in the handbook, made this collection difficult to use on these older machines but the projects are perfectly suited for today’s Design Space machines. The collection retired a few years ago without being offered as a digital-only collection. When it retired, these images became unavailable to anyone who was unfortunate enough to miss out on getting this cartridge while it was available.

Last year, Close To My Heart began a new partnership with Cricut which allows all of our image collections, including retired collections like Artfully Sent, to be purchased using special links only available from Close To My Heart consultants! This is an exciting development because many of you missed these collection the first time around. This collection has so many fun projects and with the editing options now available in Design Space, the possibilities are endless!

This is the first post in a series focusing on the Close To My Heart Cricut image sets.

An Introduction to Artfully Sent

To get started, let’s watch the introductory video from 2014. Note that the stamp sets and cardstock are no longer included when you purchase the collection.

Artfully Sent Handbook and Assembly Booklet

Are you excited to see it all? With the Artfully Sent collection, you basically get hundreds of ready to cut cards, plus a full font and envelopes to put your cards in.  Click here to view the complete Artfully Sent handbook >>

The cartridge was originally packaged with an Assembly booklet which is really helpful to know how to put together the cards. Click here to view the Assembly Booklet>>

Thumbnails of Images

Below is a preview of the font and envelopes, plus each of the the five types of cards. I’ve also included a thumbnail of each project, however as I mentioned before, these images are really small and it’s hard to see the details until you open the projects in Design Space. I’ve also includes links to a series of posts that I wrote when the Artfully Sent cartridge was originally released in 2014.

Font

The Artfully Sent font has fun decorative loops which adds a unique whimsical twist to your projects. The collection includes a full font with upper-case and lower-case letters, numbers and basic symbols. Click here for a more detailed look at the font>>

Envelopes

The collection has 13 different fancy envelopes and optional liners. Click here for more information about the envelopes>>

Pop-up Cards

The 50 pop-up card projects have several layers including a card base, liner and icons. These complete projects are grouped which means in Design Space they are added to your canvas as a single layered image. Click here for more information about these cards >>

Build-a-Scene Cards

There are three types of build-a-scene cards: Swing, Backdrop and Tri-panel for a total of 50 projects. Click here for more information about these cards >>

Sentiment Cards

There are a whopping 100 in this set of cards. Each card has icons and/or sentiments cut into the card. For all of these, you can leave the cut outs as windows on the card, or cover the back with paper to add color to the design. You can also use the cut outs to make creative shaker window cards. Click here for more information about these cards >>

Sleeve and Overlay Cards

This next group of cards have tabs that when folded and attached create a sleeve or pocket. These can be used in a wide variety of ways including gift card holders, invitations or photos. Click here for more information about these cards >>

The overlay cards have a solid back and cut outs on the front of the card. Most of these do not have any theme, so you can dress them up to use at any occasion.

Pocket Cards

The last collection of projects are flat cards that can be put into the pockets of a divided scrapbooking memory protector. These are also great titles for your full size pages or even for the front of a greeting card. I also like that you can punch a hole in the top (or add in design space) and have an instant tag for any occasion. Click here for more information about these cards >>

Hello, Life! Pocket Scrapbooking

Yesterday, I showed you a layout I made which showcased photo from a recent trip to the Missouri Botanical Garden’s Lantern Festival. I had a few more pictures of the beautiful lanterns that I wanted to included in my book. So I added a pocket scrapbook pages to my album with a few more of the pictures.

I used the same Zoe paper as the layout and cut out a few cards using the Artfully Sent Cricutcartridge.

Both the flower and arrow cards are found on p. 17 of the handbook. The camera is an image on the new Artistry cartridge. I cut the third card out with the paper trimmer and a corner rounder.

Stamping on these cards is from the Hello, Life! Pocket Scrapbooking stamp set that is exclusively available during September.

Then Comes the Baby in the Baby Carriage!

Here’s a card I’ve been meaning to share for awhile. Can you think of a cuter way to welcome a new baby than this card made using the Artfully Sent Cricut cartridge?  If you have been a little intimidated by the pop up cards on this cartridge, relax! They really are easy to put together — the assembly booklet will help if you need a little help.

Outside of Baby Pop Up Card

The outside of this card is oh so sweet with the baby carriage and faux stitching. But the inside is where it really pops. Literally! When you open the card, cute building blocks pop up spelling “Baby”.

This card is found on page 23 of the handbook. The outer skin of the card is made with the “Pop-Up” function or F1 if you are using a Universal Mat. The inside is the same function with shift. All the cute baby close are found on the “Icon” function or F2.

To make a 5″ x 7″  card, set the size to 5″ as directed on the handbook page and everything will be cut to scale. If you are using an Explore machine, all of these pieces can be added to your project as one grouped image. Be sure to adjust the size before you ungroup. The correct size is 10″ tall (twice the height of the folded card) and 7″ wide.

The handy Assembly booklet that comes with the cartridge helps you see how the pieces go together.

The trickiest part is folding the liner in step 2 above. I found it easiest to fold the whole liner in half as if it was a flat card. Then reverse the center crease for the four sections with the letters so that the fold is sticking out. Then it will be easier to make the folds at the top and bottom of the blocks with the letters.

Here’s what the card looks like from the side once the folds are completed and the liner attached to the card base.

I cut the card base and the baby clothes from our Paper Fundamentals. This paper pulls double duty because the front and back of the paper are different. One side has a white geometric pattern and a shiny resist pattern is on the other. This allowed me to create two different looks for the clothing pieces cut from the same paper by simply turning one of them over.

The word Baby is cut from the inner liner of the card. I simply cut squares from the left over fndamental papers and attached them to the back of the blocks before connecting the liner to the skin of the card.

I hope this post helped take a little of the myster out of making a pop up card using the Artfully Sent cartridge. There are 50 pop up cards on the cartridge in total!

If you do not yet own the Artfully Sent cartridge, I’d love to help you get one in your hands. You can order it directly from my website — or contact me about setting up a party. You are already 2/3 of the way to earning free product!

Artfully Sent Cricut Collection from Close To My Heart: A close up look at the Font

I’m so excited to finally have the Artfully Sent Cricut cartridge in my hands and have been playing around with it. I can’t wait to show you my creations. However, first I thought it would be helpful to share with you some details about how to make the various types of cards on this cartridge. Today I’ll show you the fun decorative loopy font that comes on this cartridge.

Earlier this week, I posted about the type of cards and envelopes available on this cartridge. You can use these links to learn more about these card types.

Now that we have finished all the types of cards on the Artfully Sent cartridge, this final post will focus on the Artfully Sent Font. If you are using a cartridge driven Cricut machine like an Expression, the font will cut when you do not press any function key.

FONT

First of all there is a complete NEW font. It includes upper- and lower-case letters, numbers and several punctionation marks and symbols.

In Design Space, the font has four options: Regular, Bold, Italic and Bold Italic.

There is not a writing option, but if you change the line type to “Draw”, you can use a pen to get a nice outline font.

Artfully Sent Cricut Collection from Close To My Heart: Making Envelopes

I’m so excited to finally have the Artfully Sent Cricut cartridge in my hands and have been playing around with it. I can’t wait to show you my creations. This week, I’m writing a series of posts showcasing all the types of cards available on this cartridge, plus the envelopes and font. Click the links below to learn more! I’ll update the list after the remaining posts in this series are available.

Envelope Options

You will also find multiple options for envelopes to cut on Artfully Sent. There are seven choices for 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ envelopes and six different 5″ x 7″ envelopes. Each envelope has a coordinating optional liner that you can use to dress up the inside of your envelopes.

Setting the size

Expression and other cartridge machines

If you are creating with a cartridge-driven Cricut machine like the Expression, find envelope in the handbook. Under the image of the envelope, there will be a blue box with either 4.25″ which indicates that it designed to go with a 4.25″ x 5.5″ card or the blue box will have 5″ which indicates that it is designed to go with a 5″ x 7″ card. Set the size dial to either 4.25″ or 5″ as indicated and the machine will automatically make the adjustment so that the envelope is the right size.

Keep the dial size in the same position to cut the liner and the machine will automatically cut it the right size to coordinate perfectly.

Your finished envelope and liner will have tic marks to indicate where to fold.

Explore and Maker Machines

In Design Space, you first need to find an envelope that is designed for the size card you are making. To do this, click on the information button in image search. The name of the image will start with either “5×7” or “4×6”. (The latter is a typo in DS because these are the 4.25″ x 5.5″ envelopes.)

Once you have selected an appropriate envelope for your project and added it to your canvas, you will need to resize it. This can be difficult because the envelope will have flaps that will fold in to create the pocket. The trick I found is to assume that the liner is the same width as the card and size it appropriately.

When you add the envelope to the Design Space canvas, the liner is automatically added as well and the two images are grouped. This means if you change the size of one, the other will change in proportion. To get exactly the right size of envelope, you must hide (click on the eyeball) the envelope and attached score lines so that all you see is the liner. Now adjust the width based on the card size. Make sure that you keep the width and height proportional (keep padlock closed).

Once you have set the width, you can unhide (click the eyeball again) the envelope and score lines. It will be perfectly sized to fit your card.

The Artfully Sent collection includes 100 pocket card designs. Note that half of these are designed to be cut 4″ x 6 and the other half are 3″ x 4″. Of course you can cut them any size you want, but be aware that if you change the ratio of length to width, the rounded corners may appear distorted.

4″ x 6″ Cards

3″ x 4″ Cards

There are also two blank cards — one 4″ x 6″ and one 3″ x 4″ — to cut out of coordinating paper. You can also put pieces of paper behind different cut outs to add more detail. Here’s a sample pocket card layout.

Even though these cards were made with pocket scrapbooking in mind, they can be used in many different ways. The thoughts and sentiments are perfect for your traditional scrapbook pages. Many are just as appropriate for greeting cards, home decor or other projects. The sky is the limit!

Artfully Sent Cricut Collection from Close To My Heart: : Sleeve and Overlay Cards

This week, I’m writing a series of posts showcasing all the types of cards available on this cartridge, plus the envelopes and font. Click the links below to learn more! I’ll update the list after the remaining posts in this series are available.

OVERLAY CARDS

Overlay cards are simply a flat piece with a cut overlay on the front and solid back.

After you cut one of these cards out, you simply add pieces of paper behind the windows and decorate the front to create truly unique cards. These cards do not include a sentiment so they can be used for all occasions!

SLEEVE CARDS

These cards form a pocket that can be used for so many things — photos, gift cards, invitations, business cards, etc.

They are designed to be 4″ x 6″, but of course you can resize in Design Space to whatever fits your needs. Each of these cards is cut on a single piece of paper and include a decorative front with solid back. There are tabs around the edges that you will fold down and adhere to create a sleeve for your picture. These tabs also make adjusting the size difficult. My trick is to use the grid lines in Design Space and adjust the back side of the card to the size you want the finished project to be.

Here’s an example of a photo invitation card. To fit a 4″ x 6″ photo, you’ll want the card to be just slightly larger than that.

For this project, the card was sized down to just larger than 3.5″ tall making it perfect for a gift card!

Want to learn more about the Overlay and Sleeve cards? Watch this video!

I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial for the Sleeve cards on Artfully Sent. I’ll be posting information about the other types of cards on the cartridge soon.

Artfully Sent Cricut Collection from Close To My Heart: Sentiment Cards

I am trying to be patient as I wait for my Artfully Sent cartridge to arrive in the mail. In the mean time, I’m sharing details about how to make the various types of cards on this cartridge. Today, I’m going to focus on the cards on the Sentiment function. Each of the 50 keys on the pad allows you to make two cards.

The Artfully Sent  includes sentiment cards for all occasions including birthday wishes, offers of sympathy, words of gratitude and much more. There are two types of sentiment cards.

CUT OUT CARD

The first set of Sentiment Cards have icons and sentiments cut into the front of the card.

You can complete these cards by adding pieces of paper (great way to use scraps!) behind the cut out and add additional decorations to the front of the card itself. Each of these projects are designed to make a 5″ x 7″ card.

BORDER CARDS

The second set of sentiment cards have a border cut into the front of the card.

These projects are designed to make 4.25″ x 5.5″ cards. So if you keep the dimensions relative (don’t open the padlock), you can get a perfectly shaped card. These cards are fairly basic so they provide a great start to a project. There are lots of things you can do to finish them off: add paper behind the cut outs, stamp or cut out sentiments or add decorations. You might decide to just keep it simple like this one.

The Sentiment cards are the fastest way to create decorative cards using Artfully Sent. If you’d like more inspiration on sentiment cards, watch this video:

I hope this Pop-up card overview has been helpful. I’ll be posting information about the other types of cards on the cartridge soon.
