My Layouts using the Summer Vibes Scrapbooking Kit – Back Yard, Beach, Camp & Lake Pictures

Last week, I went through my photos from 2002. We had just purchased our first digital camera, our daughter was two, I loved photos but was not really a scrapbooker yet. It was so fun to look back at these pictures and choose the ones to print. My first three layouts for 2002 are done!

The Summer Vibes Scrapbooking workshop was perfect for summer photos from our yard, the beach, camp and the lake! Before I show you the rest of my pages, let’s take a look at the kit.

The kit contents include:

  • Summer Vibes Paper Packet + Sticker Sheet (X7258S)
  • Additional cardstock sheets (1 Nectarine, 1 Black, 5 White Daisy)
  • 5 Exclusive die-cut sheets
  • 1 Exclusive patterned paper sheets
  • Summer Vibes Acrylic Shapes (X7258E)
  • 4 Top-load 12″ × 12″ Memory Protectors™ (optional)
  • Photo placeholders
  • Printed instructions

Here’s a look at the sample pages that are shown in the directions for the kit.

I love these kits because they give me ready-to-assemble pages, but with the freedom to make them my own. By showing you my versions of these layouts, I hope that you see how easily they can be adapted for different themes, number of photos and more.
For this first layout, I chose some back yard summer photos and was able to complete the pages with very little changes. By the way, that sweet little girl is now a sophmore in college! She’s keeping busy this summer with a full time internship. Due to Covid, she has her workspace in the our basement so we get to see her occasionally!

For the second layout, I used photos from a trip to Florida that same year. It was our daughter’s first time to play in the ocean.
Once again I was able to finish these layouts with minimal changes to the pattern. The love how the clusters of flowers, leaves and flip flops frame the pages. The variety of materials (stickers, die cuts and acrylic shapes), creates a lot of interest. I also popped a few things up with 3D foam tape to add more dimension.

I split the last layout into two single pages. These were two events that I only had a few pictures for so that worked well. For the first page, I used the SUMMER grid for three pictures I took when I dropped my daughter off at camp a few years ago. All the fun icons capture the excitement of arriving on day one of what is expected to be a fun and busy week.

You may notice that I arranged the letters and pictures differently than the sample. I wish I could say there was an artistic reason for that, but it was totally an ACCIDENT!! This page has a die-cut grid overlay. I turned it upside down to attach the papers and photos from the back. I should have reverse the order and when I turned it over, I realized my mistake!
This final layout has pictures from a weekend trip to Table Rock Lake in Branson with our church small group. Within a year of taking this trip, the other three couples in the group moved out of the area. I’m so glad that we had this time together I wanted it in my album even though I didn’t take many pictures. The action shot of our tubing adventures are only captured in my mind. The title “The Perfect Day” is…well, perfect for that day!

For this layout, I exchanged the single 4×6 photo on the left for two 3x4s. The space on the left felt crowded, so I moved the umbrella and other icons to the right. I tend to do journaling on a bunch of pages at once, so as usual this, page is still needing some notes so years from now I’ll remember why these photos were important to me.
I hope that providing alteratives of the workshop layouts helps show that these kits really are versatile. For this workshop, I was able to make very minimal adjustments, but if you look back at my prior workshop examples, you see that sometimes I make more drastic changes. The key is to start with the base pages and the underlying design. Then I start arranging my photos and the various elements until I find something that feels right. The kits give me such a good starting point and keeps me from getting into a creative rut.
If you’d like more instruction on this kit, Close To My Heart is hosting a virtual workshop on August 18. The actual event will be held on the Close To My Heart Facebook page, but you need to mark yourself as “going” on the event page to be entered to win prizes!

It’s never too late! Stitched Together layouts with photos from Spring 2002

Last week, I went through my photos from 2002. We had just purchased our first digital camera, our daughter was two, I loved photos but was not really a scrapbooker yet. It was so fun to look back at these pictures and choose the ones to print. My first three layouts for 2002 are done!

The Stitched Together Scrapbooking workshop was perfect for the candid photos we took in our yard that spring. Before I show you the rest of my pages, let’s take a look at the kit.

The contents include:

  • Stitched Together Paper Packet + Sticker Sheet (X7257S)
  • Additional cardstock sheets (1 Green Apple, 1 Sapphire, 3 White Daisy)
  • Exclusive die-cut sheets
  • Exclusive patterned paper sheets
  • Wood Buttons (Z3668)
  • 4 Top-load 12″ × 12″ Memory Protectors™
  • Photo placeholders
  • Printed instructions

Here’s a look at the sample pages that are shown in the directions for the kit.

I love these kits because they give me ready-to-assemble pages, but with the freedom to make them my own. For al of these layouts, I kept the backgroud (quilting) patterns. But since all of the photo mats are cut from the full sheets of cardstock, I was able to modify the size and number of photos easily.

I love the combination of the quilt patterns and clusters of flowers on these layouts. Here’s a close up of one of the clusters. I raised some of the flowers with 3-D foam tape to create dimentions. The wooden buttons also add nice texture and height.
Since the theme of the pictures for this second layout are not sewing, I choose “So Thankful” instead of “Sew Thankful” that was used in the sample. I love that the kit includes both words to give you options. Once I decided what photos to use and cropped them down, I cut mats and started arranging the flowers and other elements until I found a pattern I liked.
The sample layout used the “Better Together sticker, but since these photos are mostly of just my little girl, it didn’t really fit. (However, that sticker was perfect for the family reunion photos in the last layout). Speaking of this photogenic little girl, I can hardly believe she is now 20! Where did time go? This is why I scrapbook!

Although the quilted pattern on this layout looks like it was intricately made with lots of strips of paper, it was made with exclusive patterned paper that had a chevron paper. The directions show you how to cut it and piece it togther to form the underlying pattern on these pages.
Even though I liked the style and colors of this layout for these photos from a family reunion, the “Friendship” title on the sample didn’t really fit. Luckily the stiker sheet had an unused title and “Good times” was perfect.

This kit includes the materials to make 6 scrapbook pages. In the kit you get a full color printed workshop guide with step-by-step directions. If you’d like more instruction on this kit, Close To My Heart is hosting a virtual workshop on July 14. Details coming soon on the Close To My Heart Facebook page.  (Be sure to mark yourself as “going” on the event page to be intered to win prizes!)

I hope this post has given you some ideas about modifying kits and patterns to fit your photos and memories.
Keep creating!

Our trip to Florida using the Blue Skies Scrapbooking Kit (Free Guide Download and Design Space File)

We have just a couple weeks left before the May – June Catalog retires. This includes the beautiful Blue Skies collection. Today I want to show you my version of the Blue Skies Scrapbooking Workshop Kit layouts.

These layouts are three of the four projects that you can make with the Blue Skies Scrapbooking Workshop guide. Click the link below to download the guide.
This guide includes cutting, prepping and assembly directions, including a link to the Design Space file for the projects. I love how these pages combine so many different elements including Cricut cuts, stamping, stickers and distressing techniques.
There are several Blue Skies bundles available, so if you want to make these layouts, you need to choose the Blue Skies Scrapbooking Workshop Kit (CC5210). Before we look at my pages, let’s take a look at the kit.

The Blue Skies Scrapbooking Workshop Kit includes all of the papers you need for the projects. Of course you can also uprchase these items separately.

  • Blue Skies Paper Packet + Sticker Sheet
  • Blue Skies Coordinating Cardstock
  • Additional cardstock (1 Canary, 1 Candy Apple, 1 Green Apple, 1 Lagoon, 3 Sapphire, 13 White Daisy)
To make the layouts as shown in the directions, you will also need the following materials and supplies which can be purchased on my CTMH website:
  • Beautiful Day Stamp + Thin Cuts (CC5202)
  • Blue Skies Stamp Set (CC5201)
  • Ink Pads: Black, Candy Apple, Green Apple, Lagoon, Lemonade, Pixie, Sapphire
  • Black & White Dots (Z3314)
  • Shimmer Brushes: Black & Clear
  • TriBlend Markers: Citrus, Dark Red, Earth Brown, Green Turquoise & Light Green
  • Black Journaling Pen (.03) (Z3516)
To complete the projects you will also need access to the following Cricut collections: Artiste, Artbooking, Artistry and Complete Creativity. You can purchase these through my Affilate Link.

Here’s a look at the all four sample layouts that are shown in the directions for the kit.

These layouts are so bright and cheerful, I knew they would be perfect for our trip to Florida in February. While we were on this trip, we were just starting to hear about the new Corona virus that was headed our way. I’m so glad that we had this fun week in the sun before all the Covid-19 shutdowns started.
The first two layouts are from our day trip to St. Augustine, the oldest city in the United States. This first layout includes photo of the Castillo de San Marcos and the second has the Bridge of the Lions and a few other stops around town. We enjoyed seeing the sites and learning the history of this town.

If you compare my layout above with the workshop sample, you’ll notice that I have fewer photos. That’s because I had already printed by photos 4″ x 6″ and they were not ones that I could crop enough for the small photo wells along the bottom of the pages. Instead I used Flip Flaps to layer several additional photos onto the right page.
For this next layout, I turned each of the pages 90 degrees so that the decorative bubbles are on the outer edges instead of the top. This worked so much better with my landscape photos. And of course I also used Flip Flaps to add more photos because there is never enough room for pictures!

I changed the last layout up quite a bit. I love taking photos and spent quite a bit of time on this trip practicing my manual mode skills. I picked some of my favorite sunrise and sunset photos to highlight on this layout.
Instead of the hot air balloons, I stamped some extra cameras for this page — love how stamping gives you the freedom to make as many of an icon as you want! I used the “Hello Sunshine” title (that I left off the last layout) on the left for the morning photos. The circut cut title “Do what makes you happy” perfectly descibes how I feel about photography. Finally, I swapped out the base pages with Nectarine to bring out the colors in these photos.

For this whole set of pages I had additional photos that I wanted to include that did not fit. I accomplished that by adding several flip flaps and using pocket plus protectors between the pages. I
The pages for this tripo are done, so I have one layout leftover for another project. I did not attach the photo wells in case I need to change it up once I choose my photos. The pages plus pieces are in a ziplock in my stack of ready-for-photos layouts. When I start on a project, I always look through this pile first before creating new layouts. It really make them come togther quickly if I find something I can use in this stack.
Remember the Blue Skies Scrapbooking kit retires on June 30. I hope you have enjoyed this look at the Blue Skies Scrapbooking Workshop and are inspired by my modifications.
Keep creating!
