Gold Embossed You Make Heart Happy Card

Today, I have another card using the new Uptown Fundamental collection. This card is all about the GOLD!

Check out lists of trends for 2016 and you’ll surely see over-the-top gold. One trend article I found talked about “Bold Gold” where gold moves being an accent and takes center stage. That’s the goal I had for this card. To do this, I pulled gold from several sources.

A1192 Happy Heart

First, I heat embossed the hearts and sentiments from the Happy Heart (A1192) stamp set. This stamp set is a bargain because a lot is packed on it for a size A set!

If you have never heat embossed, you are missing out on one of the coolest crafting techniques. First you stamp with Versamark and sprinkled with gold embossing powder. Then the fun step: melt the powder with the craft heater until it was beautifully shiny.

Gold Embossing Powder

The bottom half of the card is covered with the bold gold and white stripes from the new Uptown Fundamentals paper pack.  This paper has literally “Bold Gold” stripes. The finishing golden touch is the gold and white ribbon from the Uptown ribbon pack.

Love the Bold Gold trend? Here’s some other creative products that will help you incorporate gold into your projects. Links to learn more about each of these are below the images.

Thanks a Bunch Card using Pigment Ink Embossing

Bunch Card

One of my favorite stamp sets in the Seasonal Expressions 2 Idea Book is Ornate Blooms. This stamp set is proof positive that clear acrylix stamp sets are great for detailed stamping. It is amazing how beautifully these intricate designs transfer to your paper.

Much of the artwork I’ve seen using this stamp set have incorporated some form of “adult coloring”. Also the images on this stamp set can be cut out using the coordinating set of thin cuts.

I wanted to go a different direction and decided to see how it would stand up to embossing.

Bunch Card Embossing

To get this unique coloring, stamp with Lagoon, Pear and Honey pigment inks. To create the ombre effect, first tap the stamp a few times in the center on the lighter ink color, then tap on a darker color toward the edges.

Because pigment ink sets on top of the paper (instead of soaking in like dye ink), be sure to press gently straight down to prevent it from smearing. Before the ink had a chance to dry, sprinkle on clear embossing powder. Next heat the stamped areas with a craft heat gun. I love watching the embossing powder melt and turn shiny.

It is hard to capture on film how pretty and dimensional the raised design is. The sentiment for this card is from the Floral Banner stamp set.

Bunch Card Detail

Because of the beautifully shiny and dimensional stamping, this card really didn’t need additional embellishment. However I added a few of the green enamel triangles to add just a little more pizzazz.

So next time you are looking for a way to dress up a card, remember the pigment ink/embossing powder combo.

Happy Creating,

Rebecca
